Clarence “Poppo” Batiste Jr. passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009.

He was the beloved husband of Lydia Collins Batiste; son of Thelma C. Batiste and the late Clarence Batiste Sr. of Lacombe.

He was the father of Dwayne Crawford (Shannon), Clarence Batiste III, Wykenie Batiste and Blake Casnave; brother of Sandra Magee (Jesse), Burnadine Williams (Bruce), Helen Batiste and Gerald Batiste; grandfather of Dwayne Crawford Jr., Keenan Batiste, Shane Crawford and Kenleigh Howard. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Viola Collins and his sister-in-law Sylvia Caldwell.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Herman “Hipper” Batiste; and grandparents Leo Paul and Angelina Batiste, and Joseph and Lillian Casnave.

Poppo attended Mandeville High School and became a master carpenter by trade.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 28088 Maine St., Lacombe. Visitation is from 9-11 a.m.

Sheriff and Slidell police on the hunt for armed robber

The armed robber, who is suspected of two armed robberies last week on Brownswitch Road and Robert Boulevard in Slidell, is also suspected for the robbery of the Blockbuster Video store at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Military Road Wednesday afternoon.
