Salmen defeats

Oak Forest

Salmen’s Taylor Nunez hit a fifth-inning grand slam and got the win in relief during an 11-5 victory over Oak Forest on the road Thursday in Northshore Summer Baseball League action. The Spartans are 4-7 this summer. Brandon Hatcher doubled twice and drove in two runs, while Tanner Dunham singled and posted a pair of RBIs. Breland tallied a run-scoring single, while Eric Cochran singled and registered a run batted in. Jason Hursey had a hit singled and scored twice. He also started on the mound and threw three and one-third innings on the mound.

Ross Himber, Chad Mistich and Eddie White all singled for Salmen.

Laneco Construction

blanks Springfield

Laneco Construction (Pope John Paul II) batter Alex Ramirez’ grand slam ended a 12-0 victory over Springfield Thursday at PJP in American Legion action. Laneco Construction is 8-5 overall and 6-3 in league play.

Ramirez finished with six RBIs and he scored two runs during a 2-4 night. Blake Bonnaffons walked twice, got hit twice and scored three times. Ross Macaluso tripled, drove in two runs and scored another. Andre Damiens went 1-2 with two runs scored.

Dustin Dampier posted a hit, drove in a run and scored one, while Timmy Turner went 1-3 with a run. Jacob Hughes also tallied a hit for Laneco Construction.

Winning pitcher Bobby Mayfield (3-1) started and pitched four shutout innings allowing two hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Connor Olivier relieved him and pitched the final inning with two strikeouts.

Sheriff and Slidell police on the hunt for armed robber

The armed robber, who is suspected of two armed robberies last week on Brownswitch Road and Robert Boulevard in Slidell, is also suspected for the robbery of the Blockbuster Video store at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Military Road Wednesday afternoon.
