Louisiana State Police reported that a one-vehicle crash, caused by a tire blowout killed a man from Baker Monday night on Interstate 12.

According to Troop L spokesman, Trooper Louis Calato, Calvin William, 42, of Baker was driving his 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck west on I-12 around 6 p.m. Monday when his right rear tire blew out about three miles west of Louisiana Highway 434. Calato said Williams over-corrected to the left, causing the truck to run off the road onto the grass median. Then the truck rotated counter-clockwise and flipped over.

While the truck rolled over, Williams was ejected from the truck, because he was not wearing a seatbelt. The truck finally came to rest in the eastbound lane of I-12.

Williams was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans with severe injuries, Calato said. The doctor at the hospital pronounced Williams dead shortly after his arrival.

Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the accident, but Calato said a blood sample was taken to be submitted for analysis.
