Police round up escaped prisoners

As of press time Saturday morning, law enforcement authorities were still on the hunt for one of four prisoners that escaped from the St. Tammany Parish Jail Thursday night. Three of the prisoners were captured early Friday morning about a mile north of the jail.

Slidell man indicted on federal gun charges

Thursday, a federal grand jury in New Orleans indicted Cody Callender, 23, of Slidell for possession of a firearm by a person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence and possession of an unregistered sawed-off shotgun, according to U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.

New 22nd Judicial District Court Commissioner named

Former Washington Parish Chief Criminal Deputy Dan Foil, 57, has been named Commissioner to the 22nd Judicial District Court, which covers Washington and St. Tammany parishes. He took over the job June 8. Foil is only the second person to ever be appointed to the position, which was created in 1998 to alleviate some of the burden, caused by swelling dockets, on the district’s 12 judges.

Sheriff and Slidell police on the hunt for armed robber

The armed robber, who is suspected of two armed robberies last week on Brownswitch Road and Robert Boulevard in Slidell, is also suspected for the robbery of the Blockbuster Video store at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Military Road Wednesday afternoon.
