St. Paul’s defeats Holy Cross

St. Paul’s played solid defense and placed three players in double figures Saturday, defeating the Holy Cross Tigers, 54-33, in a game played at Mt. Carmel Academy. Senior Josh White topped the Wolves with 14 points followed by Luke Baumgartner with 12 and Jeff Coote with 11. Coote connected on 6-of-6 free throws.

Derek Arnold contributed seven rebounds, while Morgan Wells dished out three assists and took two charges for the Wolves.

SPS held a 24-15 halftime lead. The Wolves outscoring the Tigers 12-4 in the third quarter to increase the lead. The St. Paul’s defense held Holy Cross to under 10 points in each of the first three periods.

St. Paul’s coach Mike Toups said his team did a great job taking care of the ball.

The Wolves only committed four turnovers, two in each half.

“We made it a half court game. Our guys did a great job defending. It was a solid performance,” Toups said.

First Baptist falls

to Crescent City

First Baptist Christian School’s Eagles suffered a 69-54 home loss to Crescent City in non-district play Friday.

The Eagles are 5-5 this season.

Anthony Benasco led First Baptist with 16 points. Jonathan Fredericks and Caleb Earhart each tallied 12 for the Eagles.

NCS participates in tourney

Northlake Christian School opened tournament play at the Alario Center Sunday, downing De La Salle, 35-14, behind Jenni O’Rear’s 12 points and five rebounds.

Hope Fitzgerald added eight points, while Angela Barrios, playing with the flu, had six first half points and three assists.

NCS captures PJP Tourney

Northlake Christian School’s Lady Wolverines won the second annual Jaguar Classic Tournament Saturday, downing the host Lady Jaguars, 41-37. Caitlyn Anderson registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Wolverines. Hope Fitzgerald finished with 12 points.

NCS blasted Ecole Classique, 54-8, in Saturday’s first game. Ten different NCS players scored. Fitzgerald finished with eight points and six rebounds. Jenni

O’Rear chipped in with seven points followed by Brandi Chesne, Jen Ryan and Bri Armstrong with six points each.

Northlake Christian opened the tournament by beating Our Lady Academy, 51-19.

Anderson scored 10 points, while Fitzgerald tallied nine.

In their second game of Thursday, NCS fell to Pope John Paul II, 42-38.

Fitzgerald topped the Lady Wolverines with 17 points, while adding five boards.

PJP went 4-1 during the competition. The Lady Jags started with Thursday’s victory over NCS and then beat Archbishop Hannan, 60-6, Friday.

In Pope John Paul II’s second game Friday, the Lady Jaguars defeated Ecole, 34-8.

On Saturday, PJP blew out Our Lady Academy, 44-8, which led to the championship game.

PJP’s leading scorers were Danielle Olivier, averaging 11 points, two blocks and six rebounds. Ashley Allen averaged seven points and two boards.

Slidell beats Cabrini

Slidell’s Lady Tigers defeated Cabrini, 53-44, in a non-district road game Friday.

SHS, which trailed 23-22 at halftime, was led by Lillian McAbee with 12 points, while Kameron Lacoste posted nine. Anna Gomez and Bianca Navarre each recorded eight, and Melyssa Darby tallied seven.
