The dollar in your pocket is not worth any less that it was seven years ago. You’re only in trouble when you take it out of your pocket and try to spend it.

Artists: Today is the deadline for submitting your registration for participating in Arts Evening 2008.

The award-winning event sponsored by the City of Slidell’s Department of Cultural & Public Affairs will be held Nov. 1 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Olde Towne Slidell.

In years past, over 100 artists have displayed their works at various locations in historic Olde Towne.

The annual event is one of the community’s largest cultural arts festivals, and also features food, live music, dancing, fine dining and antique and boutique shopping.

Artists wishing to participate can go online at www.slidell.la.us/artsevening to download a registration form. There is no charge for work to be placed in participating Olde Towne businesses. However, there are a limited number of display tables available in the Slidell Municipal Auditorium for $50 each on a first-come first-served basis.

Also, artists can vie for the opportunity to have their art featured on the cover of the Arts Evening 2008 brochure, a $200 prize and limited edition posters.

In addition, the event offers special recognition from the Commission on the Arts for Best of Show, Second and Third Place entries. And the St. Tammany Arts Commission will offer a purchase award, and the selected artwork will be installed in a parish government building.

Artists are also encouraged to submit a brief biography, photograph and photo of their artwork with the registration form. This information will be provided to local publications and featured on the city’s Web site.

Two bacteria walk into a hospital OR. The surgeon says, “We don’t allow bacteria in here!”

The bacteria reply, “It’s OK. We’re staph.”

Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.
